Indulge in traditional Hanukkah snacks_ Have a look at Festive Rugelach

If you are making Hanukkah sweets and desserts, then it is impossible that you will miss out on the delicious and all-time classic rugelach.

If you have only tried it at the bakeries and never really made it at home, then here are some tips for you to follow. We can help you understand the concept of making rugelach at home. It's nothing like rocket science! The process is pretty easy, and once you get hold of the instructions, the rugelach, like any other dessert, can be prepared in a jiffy.

What are the ingredients you are likely to need

Coming to the ingredients that are used in making a rugelach, most of them are available as pantry staples in every kitchen.

  • Unsalted butter- Make sure that the butter is not frozen and present at room temperature.
  • Cream cheese- Of course, you need cream cheese in your rugelach for the gooey and delectable flavors.
  • Vanilla extract- Use vanilla extract in your recipe to give a heightened sense of flavor.
  • Sugar- Always use granulated sugar when making rugelach or any other baked goods, as they are easy to blend.
  • All-purpose flour- A regular rugelach is prepared with all-purpose flour as the main constituent.
  • Eggs- Use eggs in the mixture, which act as the leavening agent.
  • Things for the filling- Use fillings like chocolate chips, dried fruits, nuts, walnuts, raisins, etc for this purpose.

Understanding the process of making Rugelach at home

1. Start with the dough! That is the most preliminary step of making rugelach!

Alright, let's focus on making the rugelach dough first. You need cream cheese, butter, and vanilla extract in a bowl along with some sugar to be whisked well. If you are not confident about the blending process then use a food processor or mixer for this purpose. Do not add all the flour at once. Rather add little by little so that no lump is created.

2. In the next step, refrigerate the dough

Once you are done with the process of kneading, you can refrigerate the dough. But before you place it in the refrigerator, there is one more thing that needs to be done. Divide the entire dough into two balls and wrap them in a plastic cover. The process of cooling down takes about one hour or so.

3. Preheat the oven!

Following the process of cooling down, you have to preheat the oven. This is done at 350°F.

4. Rolling the dough!

So now, you have to give it the shape. Add some dry flour on a flat surface and then roll the dough ball to create a flat circle. Now use a pizza cutter to give triangular shapes to every slice. This is the technique to make the rugelach so you should not skip any.

5. Not to forget the fillings!

Next up is the process in which you add the filling to the triangular slices. This is up to your choice as we mentioned before, the kind of filling you would like to have for your rugelach. Now it is time to roll it up.

Finally, bake!

You are expected to bake the rugelach for at least twenty minutes to twenty-five minutes or until they are nicely baked and appear golden. The surface is often smeared with egg wash. But this is an optional step.

This way, your delectable and munchy rugelach will be ready in no time. If you are all interested in festive desserts or Hanukkah specials, then rugelach is a must-have. But apart from that, there are many more traditional Jewish sweet dishes that are served during this time of the year.
